Sizzla Tour Cancelled Amidst Gay Rights Protest
Reggae star Sizzla Kalonji continues to face pressure overseas from Gay Rights activists.

Kalonji, whose real name is Miguel Collins, was booked to appear on a show in Stockholm, Sweden on March 28. However, promoters of the event were forced to halt the show due to outcry from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.

In a message posted on their blog, members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organization condemns Sizzla’s anti-gay lyrics; protesting his appearance on the show’s lineup.

Sizzla was the headline act on the show dubbed “Reggae Compassionate Act” schedule for Wednesday, March 28 at the Hornstull Strand in Stockholm. The show has since been cancelled indefinitely.

Over the last few years, Gay Rights groups has stepped up their fight against reggae and dancehall artistes who they claim advocate violence against them. Entertainers such as Sizzla, Capleton, Buju Banton among others have all seen their shows affected by Gay Rights groups in North America and Europe.

In 2007, several of Sizzla’s tour dates in Montreal and Toronto were cancelled due to protest by members of the “Canadian Stop Murder Music coalition.”

Despite this recent fallout, Sizzla has been praised by the reggae and dancehall community for his recent concert “Sizzla Unplugged and Acoustics” held last Sunday at Club Privelege in New Kingston. This was Sizzla’s first major live performance since his near fatal motorcycle accident in Jamaica last summer.
